MICHAEL ARAM, Metal
American-born Michael Aram captures the essence of the handmade process. The reference in Aram's bio to "a life-altering trip to India" invokes varying degrees of imagery but none as poignant and precise as the Hindi translation of his name, Aram: "gently, with peace, with love and care." His name is tantamount to a mantra for his approach to the craft.
In New Delphi, Aram learned age-old metalworking traditions. He felt the expressive energy that emanates from each handcrafted piece. He was inspired to work with craftsmen whose skills were yet untapped. His work with metal evolved into original pieces, where no two are ever exactly the same, whether he's crafting furniture or silverware.
Aram's Studio Collection of handcrafted bowls and accessory pieces wed aesthetically with 21st century lifestyles. His Signature Collection, including boneware serving pieces have been described as highly artistic, narrative and nature inspired.
The Indian ethnicity of each design brings pause and regard to the discerning eye. His works resonate with a sense of ritual and ceremony. Michael Aram has truly evolved from a fine arts artist to a soulful artisan.
